Been a long time!
Remember back in February of 2020, this whole COVID-19 thing hit and the US/Canada border was shut down. That action effectively cut apart our NAFA Region 7 and stopped all flyball competition until the border could be opened again. All of Flyball nationwide ground to a halt for quite some time and we all found new outlets to exercise the dogs and maintain their tenuous hold on sanity. Dock Diving, barn hunt, reservations at SniffSpot, hiking, long distance running, beaches were all potential outlets while we patiently awaited the return of flyball.
Slowly the practice facilities opened back up, but with the border remaining closed, we couldn’t afford to start tournaments until then. While other regions around the United States were able to restart hosted tournaments, we continued to wait in frustrated patience for our turn.
Well now, just shy of 2 years later, region 7 has sactioned tournaments coming up in a couple of months. We have puppies who’ve never heard tournament level barking, we have green dogs just itching for their first real race, and we have old veterans overdue for retirement celebrations. We have distant friends from across the region we’ve been relegated to facebook only updates, and celebrations of all kinds long overdue. Certainly a return to racing will be exciting, but just seeing and catching up with old friends, walking around the big RV camp again, and raising a few glasses in toast to a return will be a huge relief to all of us.
January 29th will be region 7’s return and we cross our fingers that 2022 will bring us in to another stellar year of exciting updates. Stay tuned!
